More About Audio Visual Aids

Summary
According to research, most people are likely to remember more than 50% of the things they see. As a result, the usage of visual aid technology in presentations has been continuously increasing nowadays for better presenting results. Objectively speaking, visual aid can be a crucial part of a successful speech, by directly making the process of presentation more vivid and interesting. However, negative effects might also occur if this technology is used incorrectly.

  •   There are many types of visual aid mediums for everybody to choose from today, such as multimedia PPT slides, charts, video recordings or even simple handouts for audiences. All of these visual aid options have a clear advantage in common comparing to giving a speech by speaking only – more direct and easier to understand or remember. Anything that is visible will seem more vivid and intuitional than sound. This is always better for presenters to explain ideas or facts better during the speech. In addition, a well prepared visual aid such as a chart or short film can make the person presenting seem more prepared and professional.

  •   However, negative effects might also occur when using such technology in presentations. Since visual stuff seem more attractive than sound, the contents of the medias shown can distract the audience from paying attention to what the speaker is trying to convey, therefore making it harder for the presenter to grab the attention of audiences and express his or her ideas. Furthermore, the costs and required skills for the presentation itself will also increase dramatically if visual aid has been frequently used.
    Personal Thoughts

Visual aids might seem to be an irreplaceable option for presentations nowadays but there are still some straitened circumstances for the speaker to balance the attention of audiences. If you have any good ideas or comments, please know that you are more than welcome to share them with me.
